Floor Pan Cutouts!

Started some work on the passenger side floor pan. here is how it went.

Cut out large sections with an angle grinder first to make this easier to work with.

First we grind out a little bit to see where the welds are better.
Then we will drill with a regular drill bit so we have a better seat for the spot weld bit.
Then we go back with the drill with the spot weld bit. It cuts out around the weld to it separates the metal on top from the brace underneath.
Here is what it looks like when you finish a bit there. We go back with a pry bar to be sure its cut out there. It's a pretty useful tool we got for this.

And here is how it looks after you pull out most of it. We did not get the whole thing yet. just one "T" looking section and used the angle grinder to cut it out fully.

8/18/2012 "We have liftoff"

Just done a little bit to help ease the burden on when we need to do the pans for the car. We had a set of ramps before for working on our cars so we decided to get another pair and this was our result.
It was an easy way too. We just lifted the rear of the car from the diff and put the ramps in on the back (since we can't drive it up right now) and for the front we just lifted from the cross-member.
And there is how much more room we have now.
Here is where a fuel tank should be.

Here is the sub-frame, we are very happy with how it is, driver side is a little bit nicer but still in good shape all around.

I was told that the battery box area on these cars are a bad spot for rust too.
Ours seems to be very good looking.

The Beginning!

The beginning of the whole thing. Well I guess the best way to do this will be to put out some pictures of the car.
Here it is, looks pretty good don't you think?

After the trunk was cleaned out of the extra parts we got with the car we were glad to find a solid trunk pan, the pans in the cabin though, are a different story all together.
You can see it somewhat in this one, the next one shows it a bit better.
You can see the patches done before here, they won't be there for long thankfully.
Here's the passenger side pan, not that nice in the corner there but thankfully that is the worst of it all.
Some more of the passenger side here, you can see another patch on the side.
And just as a treat, one of the really cool things about this car, windshield wiper-S, Quantity three.
